Please read and share these updates for this second week in December.
1. HOLIDAY SHOPPING WEEKEND: This weekend, we are promoting as “Holiday Shopping Weekend” with a special visit from Santa Claus on Saturday from 12-4 in the Lafayette Lofts downstairs. It is free to visit Santa, and light refreshments may be available. If you are in a giving mood, our friend Santa Claus will be accepting donations for the Ken-Ton Kiwanis Club’s Veterans’ Scholarship Fund.
*We were getting a lot of calls …. So we have added many, many weekend holiday hours to our website. We hope to do that also with dining and bar hours for Christmas Eve, Day, and New Year’s Eve, Day. More to come.
2. CHRISTMAS WREATHS: The EVA has about 50+ holiday wreaths to affix to the lightpoles on Elmwood. Ward Pinkel from Urban Leisure has already put up over a dozen, and we expect the rest of our wreaths, now with working lights, to be completed by this THURSDAY.
3. PUBLIC EVENT: The Urban Land Institute WNY chapter is sponsoring a panel discussion and presentation on “Building Sustainable Communities: What are the Benefits of Sustainable Growth?” on Wednesday, December 7th from 6:30-8:30pm at the Lafayette Presbyterian Church at 875 Elmwood. Free and open to the public. — (My first email accidentally said Thursday, not Wednesday).
4. GREEN CODE: I have been informed that the revised Green Code will be voted on December 27th, after it is moved out of committee on Dec 13th. The latest draft of the Green Code involves some amendments that have evolved over the last few months, including an overall limit of 3-stories for buildings outside downtown Buffalo, a maximum frontage width for commercial properties of 120 feet, and a prohibition on combining more than 2+ contiguous properties for joint development. The Green Code is expected to be passed unanimously by the Common Council.
Thanks for reading, and thank you for your support. Please share this info with all those interested.
