Elmwood Village Association Names New Executive Director

Buffalo, NY – The Elmwood Village Association (EVA) has named Ashley Smith as the new Executive Director as of April 13, 2017.
Ashley Smith is a planner, analyst and consultant with experience in community and transportation planning, policy analysis, and nonprofit management.  She joins the EVA from the NYU Rudin Center for Transportation Policy and Management where she acted as a research assistant.“We are very happy to have Ashley return to the organization as she was such vital contributor in the past.  Her background and experience perfectly align with the mission and values of the EVA,” said board chair, Wendy Sanders.  “This is an incredible opportunity for both Ashely and the EVA.  She will bring her expertise and passion to the Elmwood Village community and help us continue to thrive.”Prior to joining the Rudin Center, Ashley worked for the EVA, producing the annual Elmwood Village Summer Concert Series in Bidwell Parkway and led the organization’s volunteer activities in the role of Community Engagement Manager. She served briefly as the organization’s Interim Executive Director in 2016.“I’m thrilled to serve the Elmwood Village community in this leadership role. The energy of the Elmwood Village drew me to move into Buffalo in 2009,” said Smith.  “It’s an honor to return to Buffalo to lead the organization and community that attracted me to the urban planning discipline in the first place.”As an independent planning consultant, Ashley has composed Complete Streets Policy Guides and reports for municipalities in the Western and Central New York regions.  Ashley holds a B.A. in English from the University at Buffalo, where she wrote her honors thesis on Ecology in modern American literature, and a Master’s in Urban Planning from New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. Ashley received an AIANY Heritage Ball Award in honor of the Rudin Family in 2016.
