Western New York’s favorite open-air marketplace, the Elmwood Village Farmers Market, presented by BlueCross BlueShield of WNY, returns to the corner of Elmwood Avenue and Bidwell Parkway in Buffalo’s historic Elmwood Village on Saturday, May 11th. The market will run Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., rain or shine, through October 26th.
The Elmwood Village Farmers Market (EVFM) has a rich tradition of serving the Elmwood Village community, bringing together growers, makers and producers to offer fresh and unique products. Unlike most markets, the EVFM is a producer-only market, which means that everything sold has been grown and/or produced by the vendors themselves in the WNY region. When shopping in a producer-only market, visitors know they are dealing directly with the source of the goods they’re purchasing.
A program of the Elmwood Village Association, the market features more than 40 local vendors selling fruits, vegetables, baked goods, organics, fresh meat, cut flowers, wine, craft beer, eggs, dairy, honey, maple syrup, cheese and more. Products available at the market are always fresh, seasonal and local. New this year, cafe seating will be available for visitors and customers.
Musical entertainment returns weekly, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., weather permitting, along with community groups focused on Health & Wellness, Local Foods and/or Sustainability. KidBiz, a program of the SUNY Buffalo State Small Business Development Center returns to the market on June 15, July 6 and August 3rd.
To increase access to fresh, healthy, local foods, the market’s Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) system allows low-income individuals who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to use their benefits at qualifying vendor stands. Please visit the Elmwood Village Association information table for details.
“Despite this year’s weather, we’re looking forward to making our 21st year at Elmwood and Bidwell our most vibrant year ever,” says Colin Erdle, president, Elmwood Village Farmers Market and owner, Erdle Farm.
“As a Buffalo-based health plan, we are proud to support the Elmwood Village Farmers Market,” said Julie R. Snyder, Vice President, Corporate Relations, BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York. “Providing access to fresh, seasonal products, this market supports local businesses and the health of our community as a whole.”
“We’re thrilled to partner with BlueCross BlueShield of WNY to support increased amenities at the market this year. New this year, have a seat on the Parkway while you enjoy your local goodies,” says Ashley Smith, director, Elmwood Village Association.
“I am so happy to see the Elmwood Village Farmers Market return for its 21st year. Having over 40 local vendors providing fresh and seasonal products at Elmwood and Bidwell every Saturday is incredibly beneficial to the community. I look forward to the next 21 years!” says Joel Feroleto, Delaware District Councilmember.
