How long does it take for city residents in the Elmwood Village to walk to a public space?
For some residents, the nearest public space, let alone park or playspace is more than a 10-minute walk! The EVA’s July Map of the Month analyzes walking routes in the neighborhood to show 5 and 10 minute walk times and accessibility to public spaces. The map uses park and public space data provided by the City of Buffalo through OpenData Buffalo.
The Elmwood Village Association’s 2018 Strategic Plan identifies Public Space & Play as one of three priority areas with initiatives focused on 1) encouraging use of public space along Elmwood Avenue as a linear park with year-round interest, 2) investing in playspaces for the next generation of Elmwood Villagers, and 3) promoting the Elmwood Village as the City of Buffalo’s garden district.
Thanks to a grant from the Rotary of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, the Elmwood Village Association is preparing to host two Pop-Up Parks on Saturday, July 27th and Saturday, September from 11:00-4:00 p.m. Community input on streetscape improvements to Elmwood Avenue will be collected at both Pop-Up Parks, stay tuned for more!
